Skater is a project that looks at skater culture and the various environments in which skaters congregate. Much of the work explores notions of unconscious expression and the vulnerability of existing within a group or at the margins of a group. The skater typifies both extremes of this existence. For the past 3 years Skater has travelled the world capturing the different forms of self identity that exist within the Skater sub culture. Over 300 images have been capured so far. The exhibition has been shown at The National Portrait Gallery and is presently at Geelong Gallery of Art until September 9th 2012.
Roller Girl is inspired by 19th Century Military Portraits. The sitter places themselves within the realm of the Roller Girl ready for battle. The war portrait does not only represent the sitter, but is also a historical marker of dress, culture and body armour from that era.
